The Culture Study: John Hendrickson

My beloved unhappy song: Charles Bradley’s cover of Black Sabbath’s “Changes” unquestionably slays me. It transcends what you think of as recorded music—it’s as if Bradley’s soul is imprinted on the track. The comprehensive backstory about Bradley and his mom about the time of the recording would make it all the extra poignant.
My most loved indignant song: Thee Oh Sees, “I Arrive From The Mountain.” When I’m stressed or nervous, I crank this as loud as I potentially can and head-bang at my desk. Colson Whitehead explained to 60 Minutes that they’re on his creating playlist!
A favorite tale I have study in The Atlantic: Annie Lowrey’s deeply vivid, own account of her experience with being pregnant was the most unforgettable piece of journalism I go through last year, full end. It’ll continue to be with me for good.
